Synopsis
在祖母 Guián 去世後，Nicole 決定第一次前往中國，尋找 Guián 移民哥斯大黎加時所離開的故居。這是一段尋找答案的旅程，關於那些她從未能向祖母提出的問題：因為她沒有學會中文，而祖母也從未學會西班牙語。
After grandma Guián passes away, Nicole decides to go to China for the first time to look for the house Guián left when she emigrated to Costa Rica. This is a journey to answer the questions she was never able to ask Guián because she never learned Chinese, and her grandma never learned Spanish.

Director’s Statement
在《Guián》中，我決定拍攝自己的家庭，希望呈現我的族群在哥斯大黎加常見刻板印象之外的更多面向。我的目標是打開一扇窗，讓觀眾看見一個在拉丁美洲廣泛不可見的移民社群。透過這段具體而私密的故事，影片也觸及一個普遍的命題：如何連結未知的過去，並尋找形塑我們身份的根源。
這是一部關於不遺忘，也關於不允許被遺忘的電影。
In Guián, I decided to portray my own family to present more dimensions than the stereotypes my community is known for in Costa Rica. My goal was to create a window to see what immigration looks like for a community that is widely invisible in Latin America, and through its specificity, to touch the universal story of connecting with an unknown past and trying to find the roots that shape our identity.
This is a film about not forgetting, or not allowing to forget.

Biography
Nicole Chi 是一位具有華裔背景的哥斯大黎加編劇與導演。她的作品曾入選特柳賴德電影節、SXSW 西南偏南影展，以及真實影展 Visions du Réel。她曾獲得美國導演工會學生電影獎傑出導演成就獎，以及摩納哥格蕾絲王妃基金會新銳電影藝術家獎等肯定。
Nicole Chi is a Costa Rican writer and director of Chinese descent. Her films have been official selections at the Telluride Film Festival, SXSW, and Visions du Réel. She has been recognized with awards such as the Directors Guild of America’s Student Film Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement and the Princess Grace of Monaco Award for Emerging Artists in Film.
