Synopsis
何小培的第一部長片最初源於她希望透過女兒與母親和解的嘗試。影片從1920年代延展至2020年代，透過母親、她自己與女兒三代女性的生命、欲望與意志，呈現她們如何經歷中國近百年來的政治與社會變革。三代女性都試圖打破規則，渴望擁有屬於自己的生活；她們也在代際之間傳遞著最深切的愛，以及無意中造成的創傷。
In what began as an attempt at reconciling with her mother through her daughter, He Xiaopei’s first feature-length film takes us from the 1920s to the 2020s through the lives, desires, and willpower of her mother, herself, and her daughter as they experience political and social revolution. Breaking all the rules and desperate for a life to call one’s own, each woman passes to the next the most tender love and unintentional trauma.

我並不是和母親一起長大的，我們之間一直疏離。她不太願意和我說話，所以我請我的女兒去採訪她。母親喜歡談自己的過去，女兒也喜歡聽她講故事。攝影機成為連接我們三代人的媒介。我希望透過這部影片改善我和母親的關係，儘管當時我還不知道該如何處理這些影像素材。
新冠疫情期間，我滯留海外，母親在北京去世，這讓我留下深深的遺憾。回到中國後，我開始重新整理和審視這些素材。我看見了我們三代女性如何在近一個世紀中，置身於中國快速發展與變化之下，經歷政治與社會革命，打破種種規則，並在彼此之間同時給予創傷與愛。
I didn’t grow up with my mum and we were estranged. She didn’t like talking to me. So I asked my daughter to interview her. My mother liked to talk about her past, and my daughter liked to listen to her stories. The video camera became the medium that connected us. I wished to use the film to improve our relationship, though I didn’t know what to do with the footage yet.
During the COVID outbreak, I was stranded abroad. My mum passed away in Beijing, leaving me with deep regret. After returning to China, I began to examine the materials. I witnessed the three generations of us, over the course of a century, under the rapid development and changes in China: how we experienced political and social revolutions, broke all the rules, and gave each other both trauma and love.

Biography
何小培博士是獨立電影導演，也是非政府組織粉色空間的執行主任。少女時期，她曾在山區放羊。大學畢業後，她加入中國登山隊，前往喜馬拉雅，攀登南迦巴瓦峰。離開登山隊後，她進入國務院擔任經濟學者，從事經濟改革研究長達14年。
自1990年代起，何小培投入中國的女性主義與女同性戀運動，並參與了1995年聯合國第四次世界婦女大會。此後，她赴英國學習性與文化研究，取得博士學位後回到中國，創立粉色空間，並透過影像呈現那些被隱形化的欲望與生命。
Dr. He Xiaopei is an indie film director and executive director of Pink Space, a non-governmental organization. When Xiaopei was a teenager, she was a shepherd in the hills. After graduating from university, she joined the Chinese Mountaineering Team and went to the Himalayas, including Namcha Barwa. After leaving the mountaineering team, she entered the State Council as an economist and conducted economic reform research for 14 years.
From the 1990s, she devoted herself to the feminist and lesbian movement in China and took part in the 1995 United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women. Later she went to the UK to study sexuality and cultural studies. After graduating with a Ph.D., she returned to China to set up Pink Space, using films to represent invisibilised desires and lives.
