Synopsis
影片講述電影導演楊樞，因拍攝了一部被中國當局禁止的電影，被迫流亡香港，無法返回中國大陸。當她得知四川的母親胃癌復發，希望在手術前見到女兒和從未真正見過面的外孫時，她只能利用受邀赴台灣參加電影節的機會，與丈夫和孩子前往台灣，秘密安排與母親見面。
然而，母親參加的是大陸旅行團，不能擅自離團。於是，一家人只能一路跟隨旅行團，在酒店、景點與餐廳之間，尋找短暫而謹慎的團聚時刻。整部電影圍繞這場充滿限制的相聚展開，也映照出政治、邊界與家庭之間複雜而無奈的關係。
The film follows Yang Shu, a film director who is forced into exile in Hong Kong after making a film banned by the Chinese authorities, leaving her unable to return to mainland China. When she learns that her mother in Sichuan has suffered a recurrence of stomach cancer and hopes to see her daughter and the grandson she has never truly met before surgery, Yang uses an invitation to attend a film festival in Taiwan as an opportunity to travel there with her husband and child, secretly arranging to meet her mother.
However, her mother is traveling with a mainland Chinese tour group and is not allowed to leave the group freely. The family can only follow the tour from place to place, searching for brief and cautious moments of reunion in hotels, tourist sites, and restaurants. Centered on this constrained family gathering, the film reflects the complex and painful relationship between politics, borders, and kinship.

《 自由行 》被普遍認為是應亮最具個人色彩的作品之一。影片中的主人公經歷與導演本人高度相似。2012年，應亮執導《我還有話要說》後無法返回中國大陸，長期居住香港，因此《 自由行 》常被視為一部帶有明顯自傳色彩的創作。
影片沒有直接討論宏大的政治事件，而是通過一場普通家庭成員之間「想見一面」的過程，展現流亡、身份、邊界以及親情所承受的現實壓力。
A Family Tour is widely regarded as one of Ying Liang’s most personal works. The experience of the protagonist closely echoes the director’s own life. After directing When Night Falls in 2012, Ying Liang was unable to return to mainland China and has lived in Hong Kong for an extended period. For this reason, A Family Tour is often seen as a work with strong autobiographical elements.
Rather than directly addressing large-scale political events, the film focuses on a seemingly simple desire among family members: to see one another. Through this restrained encounter, it reveals the pressures that exile, identity, borders, and family bonds place upon ordinary lives.
