Synopsis
每天早上，我的母親總是先於我醒來。她會先準備好我的午餐，然後出門。
每天傍晚，我的母親會在外面吃過晚餐之後才回家，靜靜地梳洗完畢後，又回到屬於她的房間裡，打開收音機，關上房門，在晚上九點睡去。
我們生活在相同的空間裡，但幾十年來，我們就像是同一屋簷下的陌生人。唯一的交集，是她為我準備的吃食。我們之間沒有噓寒問暖，沒有母女間的心裡話，也沒有「我愛你」。
當我注視著她，我知道在那震耳欲聾的沉默之下，藏著讓她難以面對及言說的秘密；我知道在緊閉的雙唇背後，是令她窒息且擺脫不去的恥辱。這一天，我終於鼓起勇氣與她開啟對話，但我真的準備好面對她將給出的答案了嗎？
我們又是否都能夠好好面對那些已經被埋藏許久的過去？
Every morning, my mother wakes up well before me, prepares my lunch, and takes off.
Every evening, after eating out, my mom comes home, washes up, closes her bedroom door, and is asleep by 9 PM.
We live in the same space. But we’ve lived like strangers under one roof for decades now. The only exchanges are the meals she cooks for me. No hellos, no goodbyes, and no “I love you.”
I watch her, knowing that beneath the deafening silence lies a secret that weighs heavily on her, keeping her from speaking; knowing that behind her tightly pursed lips is a shame so overbearing that it suffocates her. One day, I finally summon up the courage to sit her down and make her talk. But am I ready to hear what she has to say? And are we ready to face what’s been buried for so long?

Director’s Words
作為一個用影像參與社會的人，我好像一直都在說著別人的故事，那些邊緣的、沒有機會發聲、不被看見的人們的故事。我理解他們的邊緣、傷痛、無力與憤怒，是因為我自己也曾經歷過。
但我卻遲遲沒有足夠的勇氣去說出自己的故事。
因為自我揭露是件困難的事，對愛提出質疑是件困難的事，面對真相是件困難的事。
但我似乎已經到了不能再以困難為由，繼續迴避那些生命裡最重要提問的人生節點：我的身分不再只是女兒，同時也是別人的母親。身分的轉化讓我對母親這個角色有了新的認識，所以我決定逼迫自己去靠近，重新去理解我媽，並且試著幫助我們都能找到說出真相，以及超度自身傷痛的勇氣。
As a filmmaker, I’ve always told the stories of the marginalized, powerless, or underrepresented. I feel their pain, their suffering, their powerlessness, and their frustrations because those have also been my experiences.
But when it comes to my own story, I haven’t had the courage or strength to utter a sound, because exposing myself is hard, asking if I’m loved is harder, and facing the truth is the hardest.
But I can no longer use my fears as an excuse because my role has evolved. Now that I’m a mother myself, I see my mom with a different perspective. And that new perspective forces me to reckon with my past and face my fears. I hope that this process can help both myself and my mother walk out of the shadows and away from the pain that has plagued us for so long.

Biography
黃惠偵曾任國家電影及視聽文化中心董事、台北市紀錄片工會秘書長，現為獨立電影工作者。她的第一部紀錄長片《日常對話》獲得2017年柏林影展泰迪熊獎，以及多個國際影展獎項，同時也是第一部代表台灣角逐奧斯卡最佳外語片的紀錄片。
2025年，她創立你姐映像有限公司。目前除了正在製作第二部紀錄長片《LOMÀ》，也擔任多部紀錄片與劇情短片的製片及監製工作，包括《Cooking Up Democracy》（2026）、《一生二命》（2026）、《烤火房的一些夢》（2025）、《孩子》（2025）、《日泰小食》（2024）、《金魚缸小姐》（2024），以及製作中的美國、台灣合製紀錄長片《降落傘小孩》、台灣、澳門合製紀錄長片《Life Beside Itself》。開發中的企劃則包括台灣、捷克合製紀錄長片《The Island of Freedom》。
Hui-Chen Huang is an independent filmmaker. She previously served as a board member of the Taiwan Film and Audiovisual Institute and as secretary-general of the Taipei Documentary Filmmakers’ Union. Her first feature documentary, Small Talk, won the Teddy Award for Best Documentary at the 2017 Berlin International Film Festival and several other international festival awards. It was also the first documentary to represent Taiwan in the race for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
In 2025, she founded Nijeh Image Ltd. She is currently working on her second feature documentary, LOMÀ, while also serving as producer or executive producer on other documentary and fiction shorts, including Cooking Up Democracy (2026), One Life Two Lives (2026), Some Dreams in the Fire Room (2025), Child (2025), Thai-Tai Snack (2024), and Miss Goldfish Bowl (2024). Her ongoing projects also include the U.S.-Taiwan co-produced feature documentary Parachute Kids, the Taiwan-Macau co-produced feature documentary Life Beside Itself, and the Taiwan-Czech feature documentary project The Island of Freedom, currently in development.
